Privacy Policy and Promise

Your information is yours. We built YouDB to keep it private, encrypted, and under your control.

1. Our Promise to You

Your information is yours, always. You choose what is stored, how it is used, and when it is deleted. From the moment you start using YouDB, your information is encrypted on your device before it ever leaves it. We store only encrypted records that we cannot read. Every app and every feature we release is built around transparency, simplicity, and respect for your privacy.

2. Why This Matters

Most services collect and analyse your information behind the scenes. YouDB is built differently. It gives you a private, encrypted data bank under your control. Our goal is to help you benefit from your own information, safely and privately, without needing to share readable data with us. You are never the product. You are always the owner.

3. How You Benefit (At Launch)

  • Your information is encrypted on your device before it is sent to us.
  • We store only encrypted records, never readable text.
  • We cannot view or access your information in plaintext.
  • You can export or delete your information at any time.
  • You stay in full control of your privacy from day one.
  • Additional layers of privacy and control will arrive over time, and you can choose to use them if you want.

4. Your Security, Your Choice

YouDB is private and secure from the moment you begin using it. The default level already gives you the kind of protection you would expect from a private, encrypted data bank. Over time we will introduce optional layers that give you even more control if you want them. We will always be clear about what is available at launch and what is coming next.

Private & Secure Mode (At Launch)

This is the default level and it already delivers strong, modern protection. Your information is encrypted on your device before it ever reaches our servers, and we store only encrypted records that we cannot read. This level of protection is similar to the approach used by companies like Apple and Google to keep your personal information safe on your devices. It is designed to be private, secure, and effortless for almost everyone.

Enhanced Privacy Mode (Next)

We plan to introduce optional upgrades for people who want even more control. These may include things like two-factor authentication, trusted devices, or extra verification before changes are made to your account. This level of protection is similar to the kinds of login and authentication systems used by major banks. These are useful additions for people who want extra reassurance, although the default mode is already highly secure.

Maximum Privacy Mode (Future)

For people who want the strongest level of privacy possible, we will later introduce an advanced mode where recovery options can be more limited and stronger authentication is required. This mode is inspired by the kinds of protections used in high-security government and defence environments, where maximum privacy is the priority. It comes with greater responsibility but provides the highest level of control.

How Much Work Each Level Requires

We are open and transparent about the work involved behind each privacy mode, so we use a simple scale to show the level of infrastructure and engineering required:

  • £ = minimal additional infrastructure
  • ££ = moderate engineering and security work
  • £££ = more advanced systems
  • ££££ = significant specialised infrastructure
  • £££££ = cutting-edge privacy technologies

Private & Secure Mode (At Launch): £

Enhanced Privacy Mode (Next): ££ - £££

Maximum Privacy Mode (Future): ££££ - £££££

These symbols do not represent specific costs or dates. They simply help explain the level of work and technology behind each mode. Some steps may move forward or later in the roadmap depending on new research, technology developments, or emerging best practices. Whenever we make changes, we will explain them in clear, simple language and always act in your best interest.

5. How We Protect You (Technical Overview)

  • Your information is encrypted on your device before it is sent to our servers.
  • We store only encrypted records that cannot be decrypted by us.
  • Minimal metadata is collected and only when required for basic operation.
  • All communication between your device and our systems uses modern, secure encryption.
  • Additional protections such as two-factor authentication, passkeys, and trusted devices will be available as part of our roadmap.
  • Future features will only launch when they meet the appropriate privacy level of the modes above.

6. Data Storage and Deletion

Your encrypted records are stored on secure servers that we manage through trusted providers. Because we do not hold the readable version of your information, once you delete your encrypted records or choose to remove your access key, the data becomes unrecoverable. You can export or delete your data at any time.

7. How We Use Your Information

We only use your data to operate the YouDB services you choose to use. We do not sell your information, we do not analyse your information in plaintext, and we do not use your private information to train AI models. Any optional features that involve encrypted processing or advanced privacy modes will be explained clearly before you choose to enable them.

8. Legal Information (In Plain English)

DM4L Ltd t/a YouDB is responsible for handling your data in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

  • Access your data
  • Correct your data
  • Delete your data
  • Export your data
  • Withdraw consent
  • Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)

Because your information is encrypted before it reaches us, once you delete your encrypted records or your access credentials, your data cannot be recovered.

9. Our Partners

We work only with trusted providers who help us operate YouDB securely:

  • Supabase - stores your encrypted records
  • Northflank - hosts our application infrastructure
  • GitHub - hosts our source code (no user information stored)

These partners cannot decrypt or access your private information.
